Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury

Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Energy, Power and Mineral Resources

Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, BB is Adviser (with the rank and status of a Minister) to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for Energy, Power and Mineral Resources since January 2009. On completion of the five-year term in office in 2013, he has been reappointed in the same capacity in 2014. The Prime Minister holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. Under the audacious and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh witnessed unprecedented growth in power and energy sector during 2009-2015. For instance, power generation increased by 250%, access to electricity increased from 47% to 78 % and more than 4 million solar home systems were installed. Dr. Chowdhury was born in 1945, studied Economics at the Universities of Dhaka and Punjab and joined the Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP) in 1968 after a two-year stint as Lecturer in Economics in the Dhaka University. In 1971, abandoning his job in the central government of Pakistan as the Sub-Divisional Officer of Meherpur, Kushtia, he joined the Liberation War of Bangladesh, was commissioned in the Bangladesh Armed Forces and appointed as sub-sector Commander of Sector 8. Decorated for gallantry (Bir Bikram) against the occupation Pakistan Army, Dr Chowdhury was one of the chief organizers of the historic event of the Declaration of Independence and the swearing-in ceremony of the first Government of Bangladesh in Mujibnagar, Meherpur on April 17, 1971. Later he reverted to the civil service and after several assignments, went for higher studies at Leeds University, UK (1975) and did his PhD from Harvard University, USA (1983). He was CEO and Managing Director of the Industrial Bank of Bangladesh. Dr. Chowdhury served as Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh for nearly a decade in the Ministries of Food, Statistics, Power Energy & Mineral Resources and Planning. He was a Visiting Fellow at the Economic Growth Centre of the Yale University. Dr. Chowdhury retired in 2002 and later worked as a consultant to, among others, UN agencies and multilateral organizations. Dr. Chowdhury has authored several books and published articles in reputed journals. Dr. Chowdhury is married to Asma Tawfiq and has two daughters: Bushra and Mehnaz. He enjoys reading, gardening, music, travelling and golf.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber was appointed as Minister of State in March 2013 and was tasked with various strategic portfolios in economy, politics, development, media, energy, infrastructure and sustainability in order to boost UAE’s reputation regionally and globally. His Excellency Dr. Al Jaber holds a number of additional executive positions including: Chairman of the National Media Council, Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Ports Company, and Chief Executive Officer of Masdar where he led UAE’s successful bid to host the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency “IRENA”. His Excellency holds a PhD in business and economics from Coventry University in the United Kingdom, an MBA from the California State University, and a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California, the United States.


H.E. Honourable Irene Margaret Nafuna-Muloni

Minister of Energy And Mineral Development, Uganda

Irene Margaret Nafuna Muloni is the Minister· of Energy and Mineral Development in the Government of Uganda since June 2011. She graduated with an Honors degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, Kampala, in 1986 and holds an MBA degree from Capella University, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA (2004). She is a Registered Engineer, a Certified Public-Private­-Partnership Specialist, and a Professional Balanced Scorecard Practitioner. Irene was the Winner of the "Sarah Ntiiro Award" 2003; a recognition as a "Model of Excellence" by the Forum for Africa Women Educationists (FAWE). She is an advocate for gender equality, women's empowerment and utilization of science and technology for sustainable development. Since graduation, Irene has been gainfully employed in Leadership and Management responsibilities in Energy Sector for the last 26 years and Telecommunications sector for 5 years. Previously she served as a Board Member on numerous Government Institutions and Non­-Governmental Organizations. She is married to Mr. Felix Muloni and they have been blessed with four beautiful children.


H.E. Ivan Collendavelloo

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energyand Public utilities, Mauritius

Honourable Ivan Leslie Collendavelloo is the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Public Utilities of the Republic of Mauritius. He is a Senior Counsel and has been honoured by the Government of Mauritius with the title of Grand Commander of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK). He is holder of a law degree from Aix en Provence, France and was called to the Bar in 1978. He served at the State Law Office in his early career and subsequently had headed his own Law Chambers. He was first elected as Member of National Assembly in 1983 and was re-elected in 1991 and 2000. He was the Secretary General, Mouvement Militant Mauricien Party up to September 2014 when he created his own political party Muvman Liberater. He was elected on 11 December 2014 as Member of the National Assembly, appointed Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Public Utilities in 2014 and Deputy Prime Minister in December 2016.

H.E. Mohammed Hamad Al Rumhy

Minister of Oil and Gas, Sultanate of Oman

H.E. Mohammed Hamad Al Rumhy is presently the Minister of Oil and Gas, Sultanate of Oman. He graduated from Imperial College, London in 1980 and he was awarded B.SC. from Tulsa University, Oklahoma, USA from 1982-1983 with a M.S. From 1986-1990 he studied at Imperial College, London, with a PH.D. Furthermore, H.E. Al Rumhy holds Awards from Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun (By Emperor of Japan). H.E. Al-Rumhy has also worked for P.D.O.- (Petroleum Development Oman) from 1980-1986 as a Petroleum Engineer. From 1990-1997 H.E. worked for Sultan Qaboos University, Oman College of Engineering as Asst. Professor. He held a number of academic positions. Since December 1997 he became the Minister of Oil and Gas. He is the Chairman of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) Board of Directors, Oman Oil Company (OOC), Oman Liquefied Natural Gas LLC (Oman LNG) and Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC). He is also the Chairman of Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) and NTF Board of Directors (National Training Fund).


H.E. Saadeldin El Bushra

State Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, Sudan

Eng. SAADELDIN EL BUSHRA is the State Minister of Petroleum and Minerals since May 2017. He graduated from the University of Khartoum, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Then he worked in various engineering firms and public sector working in many of landmark engineering projects in Sudan. He was the first Managing Director of Danfodio Group which is one of the biggest holding companies in Sudan as well as the region.


Hon'ble Matrika Prasad Yadav

Minister, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Government of Nepal

Born in Sabalia of Dhanusha district in Nepal, Matrika Prasad Yadav, Hon'ble minister for Ministry of industry, commerce and supplies, Government of Nepal, was one of the 19 central committee members of communist party of Nepal (Maoist) when the party declared peoples' war against the Nepalese state. After the peace deal between the government and Maoist, he was appointed twice as the Minister of Forest and Soil Conservation and once as the Minister of Land Reform. His political career started at very young age and remained underground throughout most of his political life. He was also jailed several times. He is a man of action, well-known and popular for his integrity and honesty.
