FAQ

1. How do I participate in the contest?
Participation in this contest is easy. Go to Petrotech website www.petrotech.in and click on Photo Contest. A new Photo Contest page will appear and from there Click at  Upload Photo. A photo contest form will pop up from where you can upload your photo after filling details.

2. When can I enter the competition?
You can start uploading your entries right away. The last date for submitting entries for the contest is 17 th September 2012

3. Does it cost anything to enter the competition?
No, there is no entry fee for the contest.

4. Do photos have to be taken with a digital camera?
Not necessarily. You can submit photographs shot by any camera-film or digital, basic or DSLR. But the format of submission should be "JPEG OR TIFF"

5. Do you accept film images that are scanned?
Yes, scanned images are accepted provided it meets the format, size and resolution specifications.

6. Can I send a CD containing my photos?
No, we are not accepting entries on a CD. Only online submissions are accepted.

7. I have a fantastic shot, but I'm not sure it really fits the theme. Should I still submit it?
The theme of the contests is largely interpretative. As long as a photograph connects to the theme in some way, you can submit your entries.

8. How much image editing do you allow?
We recognize that digital photographs need some amount of post-processing to look their best. Hence, we will accept corrections or enhancements for colors, contrast and brightness of an image, or the creation of a panorama. However, any entries that have been excessively manipulated will be disqualified.

9. How big should my photograph be?
Photographs should be in JPEG or TIFF format only, with following specifications:
a) In size – Maximum 5 MB (Five mega bytes as maximum size limit)
b) In resolution – Minimum 2 MP (should be of minimum Two Mega Pixel resolution)

10. Do I retain the copyright of my images?
Absolutely! Every entrant will retain copyrights of his/her image. However, displayed photographs will become the property of "Petrotech or organizing committee" and will have the liberty to use them in any manner that they like.

11. How do I know that you've received my entry?
As soon as you upload the photo online, you will get acknowledgment through e-mail with the registration number of the uploaded photo and thumbnail picture.

12. How will my photograph be judged?
A panel of judges, renowned photographers will select the best of entries and their decision shall be final.

13. When will the winners be announced?
Winners will be informed separately and also announced on this website in the month of October, 2012.

14. When I submit a photo to the photo contest, what rights do I have regarding my submission?
By entering your images into the competition, entrants agree to allow publish or display their photographs in print or electronic form,to use the pictures for editorial and promotional purposes without payment, for a period of three years from the date of declaration of results. The photos will be reproduced with due credit to the photographers.

15. Are release forms required when submitting a photograph to the contest?
The entrant must be the sole creator of his/her photos and must also own the copyrights and rights to reproduction of all photos entered into the contest. It is the legal responsibility of the entrant, to ensure that the publication of the photographs by Petrotech does not raise any legal claims.

16. I'd like to enter a photo that has previously been published. Is that allowed?
Yes, provided it is connected to the theme of the contest.

17. I'd like to enter a photo that has previously won a contest. Is that allowed?
NO.

18. How old can my photograph be?
There are no such restrictions on the age of the photograph.

19. Will my entries be visible online to others?
No. This website only allows you to upload photos.

20. Will I be notified if my photo is chosen for the awards?
Yes, winners will be informed separately and also announced on this website in the month of October, 2012.

21. I accidentally uploaded the wrong photo. Can I delete my entry and submit a new photo?
Once a photograph has been uploaded, you cannot edit or delete it. However, you can upload new photos.

22. I can't remember which photographs I've already submitted. Can you tell me which of my photographs you've received?
As soon as you upload the photo online, you will get acknowledgment through e-mail with the registration number of the uploaded photo and thumbnail picture.

23.  How does the committee ensure Non-disclosure of the identity of the participants before judging process?
Each photo with their respective Title & entry number will be given to highly renowned and acknowledged jury for judging process..
