Buyers - Sellers Meet, PETROTECH-2016



The final day of the Buyers – Sellers Meet 2016 started with the session on Sustainable Non-Conventional Energy options – Challenges & Solutions. Chaired by Sri Anand Kumar, Director (Petrotech) and ex-Director (R&D), Indian Oil, the session had three eminent speakers from Indian Oil, ABB and Gamesa. Mr. Pravin Dongre, DGM (Alternate Energy), Indian Oil discussed the scope for non-conventional energy sources in countries like India. Electricity is gaining ground in many end-use sectors, which were traditionally dependent on oil & gas. The second speaker was Mr. Mangesh Nawarange from ABB India Limited who talked about Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition in Solar power plants. SCADA systems, as these are commonly known, are used in solar power plants for monitoring, control, remote communication purpose. This was followed by a presentation by Mr. P. Rajenthiran from Gamesa Renewable Pvt. Ltd. who spoke about Wind Energy as a sustainable Energy Option and why it has such an enormous potential to produce sustainable power at a reasonable cost.

The session was followed by a Panel Discussion where the topic was Legal and Commercial aspects of Project Contracts. The panelists were Sri A K Sharma, Director (Finance), Sri R K Sabharwal, Director (Commercial), Engineers India Limited, Sri A K Tewari, Executive Director (Pipeline Operations), Indian Oil and Sri Abhinav Vashisht, Sr. Advocate. Sri A K Sharma moderated the session.

Sri Sharma mentioned about how relevant the topic was in today’s context and stressed on the need to have realistic delivery schedule and faster closing of projects. Sri R K Sabharwal spoke from the Consultant – Client perspective and how EIL had made changes in its terms and conditions based on feedback from the suppliers and contractors. Sri Abhinav Vashisht talked about the legal aspects of project contracts and stressed upon the importance of drafting clear and unambiguous contracts, which would limit legal complications. Sri A K Tewari talked about the expectations of the buying community. The panel fielded queries from the audience and assured the suppliers, contractors and the EPC community that the oil and gas companies were listening to them and based on their feedback were reviewing their terms and conditions and many changes have already been affected.



After 3 days of enriching sessions, the curtains finally fell on the Buyers – Sellers Meet 2016. Sri R K Sabharwal was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory function. In his welcome address Sri Suresh Chopra, Executive Director (Projects) and Coordinator, Buyers – Sellers Meet 2016 exhorted the suppliers, contractors and the buying companies to work together with a positive bend of mind and concentrate on solutions. Sri A K Tewari lauded the efforts of the BSM organizing committee in converting the venue overnight to smoothly organize the Buyers - Sellers Meet 2016. In his valedictory address Sri R K Sabharwal, Director (Commercial), Engineers Indian Limited mentioned the changes made in EIL’s project contracts in accordance with feedback received from stakeholders and also lessons learnt from previous cases. He also talked about the new frontiers in Purchasing which, apart from being mutually beneficial, were also in line with the best practices in the public procurement space.
